Learn to Write Chinese

(iii) Composition of words:

Strokes are the smallest unit, or building block in writing a Chinese word. Together, they form larger components. An ability to recognize common components can be useful for building a Chinese vocabulary.

Here are some examples of words formed from the word 木 (meaning “wood”), which is itself also a common component part. It may be useful for you to notice the order or sequence in which these component parts come together in writing is very similar to the order of flow in how one reads a newspaper, or magazine written in English.

Here are some more Practice Exercises on Writing Sequence of Component Parts.
